The mission of YWCA Central Maine is to eliminate racism and empower women while promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all people. The YWCA movement was established in 1858 and is the oldest and largest women’s organization in the United States. Serving on the Board of Directors at YWCA Central Maine is an extraordinary opportunity for future-focused women* leaders who are passionate about the YWCA’s mission and vision. The primary role of YWCA Board of Directors is to provide mission-based, visionary leadership and strategic governance to enhance the organization’s services and programming.

Board Members serve a three-year term and may be eligible for reappointment for two additional terms.  The organization is in search of Board Members who are enthusiastic about sharing their time, experience, and expertise in service of furthering the mission of eliminating racism and empowering women and girls. YWCA Central Maine strives to have a Board of Directors that is representative of the racial, cultural, religious, socioeconomic, and age diversity of the community that we serve, and seeks women* of all skill sets, experiences, and connections to YWCA.

*YWCA Central Maine is a gender inclusive women’s organization and all individuals identifying as women, including those also identifying as transgender, gender-expansive, gender-nonconforming, or nonbinary, are invited to serve on the Board of Directors.
