Assistant Aquatics Director

YWCA Central Maine is searching for a highly qualified individual to fill the full-time position of Assistant Aquatics Director. This full-time benefit eligible position works a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the facility and programs. Hours are Monday-Friday with nights and occasional weekends.

The Assistant Aquatics Director plays a significant role in the overall success and safety of YWCA Aquatics Department. The Assistant Director is responsible for oversight and coordination of the aquatics department including responding to occasional on-call needs of the building and pool as requested, maintaining the cleanliness of the pool area for health and safety, and leading/co-leading department team meetings and trainings for aquatics staff. The Assistant Director oversees the YWCA Swim Team Coach, Assistant Coach, and all aquatics staff and programming in coordination with the Aquatics Director. The Assistant Aquatic Director works alongside the Aquatic Director in close communication to ensure and maintain full aquatics programming and full staff coverage of programs. The position is located in Lewiston.

Requirements:
– Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Recreation Management, Physical Education, or other related field preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required.
– Certified Pool Operator (will offer training for certification)
– American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard with CPR for the Professional Rescuer
– Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a lifeguard
– Experience with supervising staff and or Lifeguards.
– Experience with pool chemicals or willing to be trained
– Experience in teaching swim lessons, water fitness, or other aquatics activities

Summer Camp Director

YWCA Central Maine is searching for a highly qualified individual to fill the part-time position of Summer Camp Director for school aged children. This position works weekdays (daytime) from May – August 2020, with some required (flexible) planning, training, and managerial meetings in May and April.

With the support of the Director of Childcare Services and School Age Lead Teacher, the YWCA Summer Camp Director is responsible for the implementation of program content, daily operations, and supervision of the YWCA Summer Camp Program for children ages 5 – 12. This program is designed to provide safe, supervised, enriched care for children where their overall development is encouraged and enhanced in the spirit and mission of the YWCA. The position is located in Lewiston.

Requirements:
– Fulfill all requirements for childcare licensing prior to beginning employment. Must be 18 years or older.
– Minimum one year experience working with children; and/or 3 months experience working at a camp program; and/or comparable and demonstrated experience through education program (example: 30 credits of college courses in education or related field).
– Ability to meet the social-emotional, physical, and developmental needs of individual children.
– Ability to oversee both small and large groups of children at the same time, while also supervising within the program, including directing and modeling for staff
– Ability to swim with the children in the pool and/or outdoors (off-site field trips)
– High School diploma or equivalency
– CPR & First Aid Certified (can provide training if not currently certified)
– Familiarity with, and commitment to, the YWCA’s mission

Preferred skills
– Experience managing or supervising others
– Experience in program development or youth event planning

Aquatics Supervisor/Instructor

YWCA Central Maine is searching for a hard-working, dependable individual to fill the part-time position of Aquatics Supervisor/Instructor. The Aquatics Supervisor plays a significant role in the overall success and safety of YWCA Aquatic Department activities. This is an Aquatic Supervisor position reporting to the Aquatic Director and/or Assistant Aquatic Director, with close communication with all other Aquatic staff. The position is part-time, 10-20 hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
– Responds to occasional on-call needs of the building and program as requested
– Maintains cleanliness of pool area for health and safety of patrons and staff
– Leads/co-leads department team meetings and trainings for staff
– Instructs swim classes with kids of various ages and adults.

Requirements:
– High school diploma is preferred.
– Qualified candidates will be an American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard with CPR for the Professional Rescuer
– Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a lifeguard
– Must be able to work independently, have knowledge of safety protocols, and willingness to work as part of a team.
– Must be 20 years of age
– Experience with supervising staff, pool chemicals, and teaching water fitness preferred
– American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification also preferred (or willingness to get certified)

Certified Lifeguard

YWCA Central Maine is searching for a hard-working, dependable individual to fill the part-time position of a certified Lifeguard. The Lifeguard plays a significant role in the overall success and safety of YWCA Aquatic Department activities. This is a Lifeguard position reporting to the Aquatic Director and/or Assistant Aquatic Director. The position is part-time, 25 hours a week.

– Responds to occasional on-call needs of the building and program as requested
– Maintains cleanliness of pool area for health and safety of patrons and staff
– Instructs swim classes with kids of various ages and adults

Requirements:
– American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard with CPR for the Professional Rescuer
– Must be able to work independently, have knowledge of safety protocols and willingness to work as part of a team
– Must be 15 years of age

Childcare Support Staff

YWCA Central Maine is seeking a qualified, reliable individual to serve as a member of our childcare team. This is a part-time position (weekdays) in Lewiston.

With the support of the Childcare Administrative Assistant & School Age Lead, Director of Childcare Services, and/or Lead Preschool Teachers (depending on time of day and classroom assignments), Childcare Support Staff are responsible for the implementation of program content, daily operations, and supervision of the YWCA Preschool and/or School Age Programs. This program is designed to provide safe, supervised, enriched care for children where their overall development is encouraged and enhanced in the spirit of the YWCA.

Preferred knowledge and experience:
1. Ability to meet the social-emotional, physical, and developmental needs of individual children. Can oversee both small and large groups of children at the same time.
3. Dependable and flexible in a changing work environment
4. Can uphold the mission of the YWCA Central Maine
5. Demonstrates a good understanding of children’s growth and development

Requirements:
1. Must be at least 18 years of age
2. Minimum six months experience working with children
3. High School diploma or equivalency
4. Must be able to pass the state licensing requirements for childcare workers (including SBI and DHHS check)
5. Has reliable transportation to and from work
6. CPR & First Aid Certified (or willingness to become certified)
