Lead Pre-K Teacher

The YWCA of Central Maine is looking for a lead pre-k teacher. Candidates for this position must be passionate about children and willing to accept each child as the individual that they are. Lead pre-k teachers create engaging educational activities for young children that promote YWCA values, foster a love of learning, and acclimate children to the classroom setting. The pre-k teacher is responsible for developing and implementing curriculum, following the Maine Early Education Guidelines, swimming two times a week with their students, and following State of Maine Licensing expectations.

Education and Experience:
– Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (required)
– 1 year direct childcare experience
– CPR and First Aid Certified preferred
– Must be able to pass a background check

Aquatics Supervisor/Instructor

YWCA Central Maine is searching for a hard-working, dependable individual to fill the part-time position of Aquatics Supervisor/Instructor. The Aquatics Supervisor plays a significant role in the overall success and safety of YWCA Aquatic Department activities. This is an Aquatic Supervisor position reporting to the Aquatic Director and/or Assistant Aquatic Director, with close communication with all other Aquatic staff. The position is part-time, 10-20 hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
– Responds to occasional on-call needs of the building and program as requested
– Maintains cleanliness of pool area for health and safety of patrons and staff
– Leads/co-leads department team meetings and trainings for staff
– Instructs swim classes with kids of various ages and adults.

Requirements:
– High school diploma is preferred.
– Qualified candidates will be an American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard with CPR for the Professional Rescuer
– Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a lifeguard
– Must be able to work independently, have knowledge of safety protocols, and willingness to work as part of a team.
– Must be 20 years of age
– Experience with supervising staff, pool chemicals, and teaching water fitness preferred
– American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification also preferred (or willingness to get certified)

The position is located at YWCA Central Maine in Lewiston. Additional hours may be scheduled to meet the needs of lessons and classes.

Head Swim Coach

The YWCA Tiger Sharks Swim Team is looking for a Head Swim Coach. The Tiger sharks team is a competitive program for swimmers ages 5-18+ years. We are a small but growing team of currently 40 swimmers who compete throughout Maine, in USA swimming events!

The head coach is responsible for screening/evaluating team members, helping swimmers develop goals, planning practices, scheduling meets, working with parent volunteers, as well as providing on deck coaching at practices and all swim meets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Organize and conduct practice workouts that are developmentally appropriate, well organized, and which demonstrate trackable progression throughout the course of the season.
2. Develop a team culture that is focused on Youth Development, which rewards effort and commitment, not only results.
3. Assist swimmers in developing, evaluating, and achieving goals.
4. Schedule, organize, and administer home and away meets, making sure all necessary paperwork is completed in submitted on time.
5. Remain current and educated with developments in the field of competitive swimming. Incorporate this knowledge via delivery of Tiger Sharks swim team practices, meets and special events.
6. Work with Tiger Shark parents who may wish to assist the Head Coach with organizational and administrative functions such as officiating or fund raising.
7. Keep families updated with team information through email and team Facebook page.
8. Administer entering swimmers into meets, running the team online store, and marketing and recruiting for the team.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Recreation Management, Physical Education, or other related field preferred.
• Must be a USA Swimming certified Coach
• At least 2 years of coaching experience
• Lifeguard certification, first aid, CPR/AED

Certified Lifeguard

YWCA Central Maine is searching for a hard-working, dependable individual to fill the part-time position of a certified Lifeguard. The Lifeguard plays a significant role in the overall success and safety of YWCA Aquatic Department activities. This is a Lifeguard position reporting to the Aquatic Director and/or Assistant Aquatic Director. The position is part-time, 25 hours a week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
– Responds to occasional on-call needs of the building and program as requested
– Maintains cleanliness of pool area for health and safety of patrons and staff
– Instructs swim classes with kids of various ages and adults

Requirements:
– American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard with CPR for the Professional Rescuer
– Must be able to work independently, have knowledge of safety protocols and willingness to work as part of a team
– Must be 15 years of age

The position is located at YWCA Central Maine in Lewiston. Additional hours may be scheduled to meet the needs of lessons and classes.
