Chief Program and Impact Officer

The Chief Program and Impact Officer is primarily responsible for strategic development and management of YWCA mission-based programs. The Chief Program and Impact Officer will serve as a critical member of the C-level executive team. Under the CEO, the CPIO will articulate and implement the strategic mission, vision and leadership of YWCA; oversee a significant portfolio of program related services (such as childcare, health and wellness programs and equity services); collect data and evaluate the effectiveness of programs to provide ongoing feedback; help to promote and diversify funding through effective resource stewardship; raise YWCA’s profile through external communications and local/statewide advocacy; provide mentoring, guidance, supervision and professional development to all program leadership staff; and enhance the structure of the organization by ensuring our goal to eliminate racism and empower women is highly evident in all YWCA interactions, service delivery, advocacy, and community relations. The CPIO is responsible for developing, managing, and implementing equity programs specifically designed to eliminate racism and empower women, for promoting awareness of local and national issues related to racism, sexism and empowering women. The CPIO will ensure compliance with various program contracts, budgets, and grant allocation awards for programs, and oversee existing YWCA programs in their overall programmatic success. The CPIO will focus on optimizing programmatic infrastructure to maximize participant outcomes, including the accountability systems for employees and partners, and develop metrics to communicate outcomes. The CPIO is directly responsible for overseeing, managing, and delivering equity-based programs and services to businesses and community partners and lead the YWCAs mission-based equity work.

This is a full-time salary position. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required for events, training, and meetings. The primary job site is located in Lewiston.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and extensive experience highly desired; advanced degree.
  • A minimum of five years leadership experience in a nonprofit, government, or philanthropic settings overseeing and supervising multiple teams, programs or contracts including managing program budgets.
  • Experience with advocacy and working with culturally diverse populations specifically supporting equity programs directed at girls, women, and eliminating racism.
  • Experience with program development, program delivery, public speaking, organizing events, and evaluating outcomes.
  • Experience with grant writing, reporting, budgets, delivery and overall program grant management.
  • Experience with facilitating DEI/Equity audits, trainings and workshops (virtual and in-person trainings) and/or facilitated equity discussions with groups of individuals and/or businesses.

Salary Range: $57,000-$70,000

Customer Service Manager

YWCA Central Maine is searching for a highly qualified individual to fill the full-time position of Customer Service Manager. This full-time, benefits eligible position works a flexible schedule to meet the overall needs of customer service.  

The YWCA Customer Service Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Customer Services Department and for delivering excellent service to all patrons, guests, and program participants. The manager is responsible for responding to patron and guests needs, promoting programs/offerings, the YWCA Community Access Pass and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the front desk and lobby area. The manager provides leadership and direction to customer service staff and ensures that an excellent standard of service is provided and maintained. The manager will also oversee and coordinate day-to-day traffic flow of the YWCA front lobby to ensure high quality daily operations and responsiveness to patrons, guests, vendors, and YW volunteers. 

The position is located in Lewiston. Hours are typically Monday-Friday, however early mornings, nights, and weekend hours may be required to meet the needs of the front desk coverage.  

Qualifications & Requirements: 

Education and Experience: 

  • High School diploma required  
  • Three years’ experience in a customer or client services (sales or related experience) setting with at least one year of supervisory experience. 
  • Computer literacy with basic knowledge in Microsoft Office Products (including Excel), point of sale systems and QuickBooks.  
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Assistant Preschool/PreK Teacher

With the support of the Director of Childcare Services, Assistant Director of Childcare Services, Site Supervisor, and/or Lead Preschool Teachers (depending on time of day and classroom assignments), Assistant Preschool/PreK teachers are responsible for the implementation of program content, daily operations, and supervision of the YWCA Preschool/PreK.  This program is designed to provide a safe, supervised, enriched care for children where their overall development is encouraged and enhanced in the spirit of the YWCA.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures that quality care is tailored and grouped according to age or ability and that programming meets the developmental needs of children in care.
  • Facilitates programs and activities designed to enhance the learning of participates.
  • Ensures that children have the opportunity to participate in a variety of enriching activities each day.
  • ACTIVELY Monitors the welfare of children involved in the program and reports on their development when necessary.
  • Ensures that child discipline issues are handled in a sound and respectful way and those problems are prevented or minimized through appropriate strategies and plans.
  • Maintains effective communication with parents about the activities of their child.
  • Participates in and supports the Aquatics and Food and Nutrition Program to ensure collaborative programmatic success.
  • Ability to meet the social-emotional, physical, and developmental needs of individual children.
  • Supports site supervisor in planning and preparing activities for both School Age Programming; including Summer Camp, as well as Preschool Programming.

Health & Wellness Program Coordinator

YWCA Central Maine is searching for a passionate individual to fill the full-time position of Health & Wellness Program Coordinator. This supervisory-level role supports the Health & Wellness Director in the delivery and oversight of high-quality health and wellness programming, including program content, daily operations, and supervision. YWCA Health & Wellness programs include all aquatics programs, MS Wellness, Single Gender Fitness, and other programs as assigned or developed. The coordinator reports directly to the Health and Wellness Director, working closely on administrative and management tasks.  

The Health & Wellness Program Coordinator, in coordination with the Health and Wellness Director, will also oversee program and staff schedules, including recruiting and selection of program instructors and lifeguards, program development and marketing, swim lesson program coordination (registration and scheduling), and ensuring patron satisfaction. The Program Coordinator may also provide direct program services to meet capacity needs and safety requirements.  

This is a full-time, hourly position working 35-40 hours per week. If you are interested in the position but require a part-time work schedule, please note this in your application for consideration. Afternoon/evening shifts and weekend availability is required. YWCA staff may be required to attend in-service training outside of regular work hours.   

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

  • Leads the development, marketing, delivery, and coordination of Health & Wellness programs (swim lessons, MS Wellness, Single Gender Fitness, water safety, fitness programs, parties and special events)  
  • Assists Health &Wellness Director with selection, training, scheduling, and evaluation of program staff 
  • Provides ongoing, timely direction and coaching for program staff 
  • Provides guidance and instruction to other program staff on best practices, procedures, methods, and techniques related to program activities  
  • Oversees Health & Wellness facility operations while on shift, including the gym, conference room, and pool (as needed/utilized) 
  • Assists with management of first aid station/emergency response  
  • Prepares facilities/equipment for programs  
  • Assists with direct service and program supervision as needed  
  • Preferred: Provides advanced or specialized activity instruction to program participants, individually or in groups  
  • Maintains a supportive environment for program participants   
  • Participates in required professional development activities  

 Qualifications:  

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years old  
  • High school diploma or and/or equivalent 
  • Competence within Microsoft Windows and Office Suite   
  • Administrative experience, especially in program or project management 
  • Experience in staff/volunteer management and supervision (direct experience related to aquatics staff and facilities is a plus!) 
  • Preferred (or willing/able to obtain): American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard with CPR for the Professional Rescuer   
  • Preferred (or willing/able to obtain): Current Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification  
  • Preferred (or willing/able to obtain): Other relevant Health & Wellness Certifications 

Compensation: $17.35 / hour (approximately $36,000 yearly with competitive benefits for full-time employees)

Childcare Support Staff

YWCA Central Maine is seeking a qualified, reliable individual to serve as a member of our childcare team. This is a part-time position (weekdays) in Lewiston. With the support of the School Age Lead, Director of Childcare Services, and/or Lead Preschool Teachers (depending on time of day and classroom assignments), Childcare Support Staff are responsible for the implementation of program content, daily operations, and supervision of the YWCA Preschool and/or School Age Programs. This program is designed to provide safe, supervised, enriched care for children where their overall development is encouraged and enhanced in the spirit of the YWCA.

Preferred knowledge and experience:

  • Ability to meet the social-emotional, physical, and developmental needs of individual children.
  • Can oversee both small and large groups of children at the same time.
  • Dependable and flexible in a changing work environment.
  • Can uphold the mission of YWCA Central Maine.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of children’s growth and development.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum of six months experience working with children.
  • High School diploma or equivalency.
  • Must be able to pass the state licensing requirements for childcare workers (including SBI and DHHS check).
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.

Certified Lifeguard

YWCA Central Maine is searching for a hard-working, dependable individual to fill the part-time position of Certified Lifeguard. The Lifeguard plays a significant role in the overall success and safety of YWCA aquatics activities. The lifeguard position reports to the Health & Wellness Director and on-duty pool supervisor(s). The position is part-time.

Requirements:

  • American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard with CPR for the Professional Rescuer
  • Must be able to work independently, have knowledge of safety protocols and willingness to work as part of a team
  • Must be at least 15 years of age

Swim Instructor

YWCA Central Maine is seeking several part-time Swim Instructors for our location in Lewiston. The Swim Instructor plays a significant role in the overall success and safety of YWCA Aquatic Department’s program activities. The swim instructor position reports to the Health & Wellness Director and the Swim Lessons Coordinator. The position is part-time, and on-the-job training is available!

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Teach swim lessons to children from ages 6 months old to 12 years old
  • Excellent client service and interpersonal skills
  • Enjoys working with children
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions
  • Prioritizes water safety
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a team member
  • Must be able to ensure compliance with YWCA safety standards, policies and procedures as needed especially important COVID protocols including maintaining the cleanliness of the pool area.

Preferred Qualifications (not required for consideration):

  • American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard with CPR for the Professional Rescuer
  • Competitive swimming experience
